Passivation Formulation for Stainless Steel with Citrajet (Citranox)

Q. How do you generate a 30% concentration of Citrajet for stainless steel passivation?

A. Both acidic detergents in the Alconox, Inc. detergent portfolio can be used to passivate.  These are Citranox® Liquid Acid Cleaner and Detergent or Citrajet® Low-Foam Liquid Acid Cleaner/Rinse.

To make a 30% solution use 300 ml of Citrajet with 700 ml of water to make up a liter, or use 3 gallons of Citrajet with 7 gallons of water to make 10 gallons of 30% solution.

Passivate by immersing the stainless steel in a 30% solution (300mL/L) of Citrajet at any of the following combination of time and temperature: 70-120 deg F (21-49 deg C)/20 min, 120-140 deg F (49-60 deg C)/10 min, or 140-160 deg F (60-71 deg C)/4 minutes. Rinse thoroughly immediately after passivation.  Citranox detergent may similarly be used.
