Q: We would like assistance with art restoration and cleaning.  Our customers are cleaning paintings from soot and other environmental pollutants. What might you recommend?

A: For cleaning and art restoration of paintings, we would recommend a gentle yet highly effective detergent, Liquinox® Critical Cleaning Liquid Detergent.  Liquinox detergent is a mild, neutral pH cleaner, yet offers powerful emulsification and removal of organic residues.  It is biodegradable, drain-safe and phosphate free.

You can use it on both classic and modern paintings.  We would recommend a 0.5% (5 ml / L) solution on a swab followed by purified water and a dry swab.  This lighter than usual concentration (typically used at 1-2%) will allow for easier removal of detergent and residuals.  You might consider using a swab for cleaning and rinsing.
