Q: We are looking to replace our detergent for cutting oil removal and possibly move away from using an ultrasonic bath.  Can you help?

A:  We would recommend Alconox® Powdered Precision Cleaner for removal of cutting oil from stainless parts.  It is a very strong emulsifier of oily and organic residue.  Start with a 1% solution (10 g/L or 1.25 oz/gal).  A higher concentration can be used for particularly oily parts.  Elevation in temperature will decrease the cleaning time required.  The Alconox Inc. rule of thumb is every 10°C increase in temperature, halves the cleaning time for most applications.

Regarding moving away from using an ultrasonic bath, manual scrubbing can be very effective in a given application.  However, with more complicated parts to be cleaned, the cavitation found in an ultrasonic bath can provide a more thorough clean.  In short, the details here are critical.  It really depends on what types and parts’ geometries are being cleaned.  We would be happy to discuss further at your convenience.
