Laboratory Cleaning – Go Green As You Clean


Q. We’re an environmental lab and need a detergent that can remove organic and inorganic residue while also being as green as possible. We had heard Liquinox or Luminox might be good choices. Which would be better? Are there other recommendations as well?

A. LiquinoxⓇ Critical Cleaning Liquid Detergent and LuminoxⓇ Low Foaming Neutral Cleaner detergents are both neutral pH, but the former is higher foaming, while the latter is lower foaming.

Higher foaming detergents take advantage of more powerful surfactants and Liquinox detergent has proven to be a potent emulsifier of organic and oily residues.  This effectiveness exists in tandem with it being phosphate-free, biodegradable, and drain safe. As such it has been the choice for environmental labs around the world for decades.

While Liquinox detergent will have some capacity for inorganic removal, and would be the far better choice over Luminox, you may need a second detergent for particularly stubborn inorganics. We would recommend keeping Citranox® Liquid Acid Cleaner and Detergent on hand for such cases. 

Both free-rinsing detergents would be used at 1-2% for most applications, a thorough rinse and you will have clean, interfering residue free surfaces. And both detergents would assist in your “going green” endeavor.
