How to: Remove Residual Silicone Oils

Q. We are currently using a solvent and we want to switch to a safer product. Do you have a detergent that can assist in the removal of residue silicone oils that are left in medical device mold inserts manufactured using clear rubber material? We are currently using a solvent and we want to switch to a safer product, such as a water-based cleaner. Will Alconox detergent work as your web page says without ultrasonic?

Removing Silicone Oil from a HDPE/ABS Medical Device

Q. We are looking for a product to effectively remove silicone oil from a HDPE/ABS medical device. We currently use a combination of washing treatments to efficiently remove the silicone oil.

A. Remove silicon oil with ultrasonic cleaning with extremely hot (over 170 deg F or over 77 deg C) 2% Alconox detergent solution followed by a thorough rinse with water. Ideally, make sure the first rinse is with extremely hot water. Typically 10-20 minutes in ultrasonics is adequate to remove the residue.
