How to: Remove Residual Silicone Oils

Q. We are currently using a solvent and we want to switch to a safer product, such as a water-based cleaner.  Do you have a detergent that can assist in the removal of residual silicone oils that are left in medical device mold inserts manufactured using clear rubber material?   Will Alconox detergent work as your web page says without ultrasonic?

Removing Silicone Oil from a HDPE/ABS Medical Device

Q. We are looking for a product to effectively remove silicone oil from a HDPE/ABS medical device. We currently use a combination of washing treatments to efficiently remove the silicone oil.

A. Remove silicon oil with ultrasonic cleaning with extremely hot (over 170 deg F or over 77 deg C) 2% Alconox detergent solution followed by a thorough rinse with water. Ideally, make sure the first rinse is with extremely hot water. Typically 10-20 minutes in ultrasonics is adequate to remove the residue.
