Alcojet in a Dishwasher

Q. Our laboratory plans to purchase the Alcojet detergent. Do we have to dilute the detergent before placing it in the dish washer or can we just place the powder in the dishwasher? Is there a better detergent for us to use instead of the Alcojet?

A. You simply place the Alcojet® Low Foaming Powdered Detergent in the dishwasher (assuming you have a unit that is not for liquid dosing).   There is typically a cup designed to hold powdered detergent, often with a door that stays closed during the prewash cycle and then pops open during the wash cycle.   These cups are sized to give a dose of roughly 1% detergent relative to the volume of wash water in the wash cycle.  The cup should hold 10 g/L of wash water.

Some larger washers may not have a cup, in which case you just dose the correct amount of Alcojet in to the bottom of the washer at a 1% concentration, using 10 g/L of wash water. If you are directly dosing the powdered detergent in to the bottom of the washer, make sure there is no pre-wash cycle in the program cycle.  If there is, it will cause the detergent to be used up during the short, cold pre-wash cycle and then there will be no detergent present during the long hot wash cycle.

If you have a large dishwasher with a pump and tube dosing system for liquid concentrate detergents, then use Detojet® Low Foaming Liquid Detergent or Solujet® Low-Foaming Phosphate-Free Liquid with the liquid dosing system.  Typically you use a 0.5-1% (5-10 mL/L) dose of Detojet/Solujet added at the beginning of the wash cycle.
