Q. We have foaming in our wastewater neutralization system. Is low-foaming Alcojet cleaner a suitable alternative to Alconox? Is it comparable to Alconox?
A. Alcojet® Low Foaming Powdered Detergent is akin to a low foaming version of Alconox® Powdered Precision Cleaner. The two detergents are not chemically identical of course, but functionally speaking, each active ingredient in Alconox detergent powder has a comparable functioning ingredient in Alcojet detergent powder. Hence, it can be used to greatly reduce foaming concerns in wasterwater neutralization, or any critical cleaning application.
Alcojet detergent contains a somewhat less efficient emulsifier than Alconox detergent. In general, that which makes stable bi-layer foam structures (aka foam), also makes good micelles for emulsifying. Consequently, high foaming Alconox detergent is better at emulsifying oils. To some extent, to compensate for this, Alcojet detergent contains more free alkalinity and a higher pH.
Alcojet powder also contains an active chlorine compound that acts as an oxidizing agent. For general purpose cleaning, you can often successfully replace Alconox with Alcojet powder where low foaming cleaning is required. Of course, you should test for your situation, set up, and cleaning parameters, to make sure the Alcojet detergent will work for you. There is certainly a very good chance that it will.
