Cleaning Glass Well Plates for In Vitro Fertilization

Q. What detergent is suitable for washing glass well plates used to manipulate gametes and embryos for in vitro fertilization or conception?

A. For successful in vitro fertilization, clean equipment is required.  Interfering residues can render conception unsuccessful. The book “Micromanipulation in Assisted Conception” (Flemming, S. and King, R.; Cambridge University Press, 2003, 25) recommends cleaning these glass plates by soaking in 1% Liquinox® detergent followed by a thorough distilled water rinse and heat sterilization.
