Q. Do you have any suggestions about the shelf life of a 1-2% Tergazyme solution?

A. Tergazyme® Enzyme-Active Powdered Detergent solutions should be used within 8 hours of dissolving the powdered detergent in water. As dry powder, Tergazyme has excellent stability with a shelf life of 2 years from date of manufacture. The dry Tergazyme will give a reliable and consistent amount of active protease enzyme upon dissolving.

Liquid enzymatic cleaners can have varying and declining amounts of available active protease enzyme as they get older. Once you dissolve the Tergazyme powder in water, the protease enzyme is activated and begins to digest proteins, including digesting itself.  A process called autocatalysis.  After all, enzymes are proteins.

While heat is typically recommended as a cleaning accelerator in many cases, we specify Tergazyme solutions should not be hotter than 130F (55C) to avoid protease degradation.  Thus risking not getting 8 hours of useful solution life.

Our Tergazyme video provides further details.

Note that a 1-2% solution was inquired about, but these recommendation holds for higher concentrations as well.   Many applications call for 3%, and on occasion higher.
