Q. Is there a liquid equivalent to Tergazyme® enzyme-active powdered detergent?

A. There is not a liquid equivalent to Tergazyme detergent.  Liquid products do not give comparable shelf life and robust, reliable enzymatic activity compared to powders like Tergazyme detergent.  In liquid form, enzymes generally suffer from some form of auto-digestion degredation.  Liquid products inevitably contain additional ingredients whose function is to try to stabilize the enzyme, but which do not inherently add to any detergency.

In liquid form, many desirable detergent ingredients cannot be used because they are incompatible with enzymes.  In liquid form, there is limited “room” in the formula for such ingredients you can use because you also have to accommodate the stabilizing ingredients.  In powder you can use highly effective detergent ingredients and have stable solid enzymes which can coexist with excellent detergent functionality for many hours (based on stability data) after they are dissolved together.  For these reasons we do not make a liquid enzymatic cleaner such as a liquid Tergazyme.

Note the following recommendations regarding enzyme stability with Tergazyme detergent:

  •         As a powder, the enzyme is very stable with excellent shelf life (2 years)
  •         Make up solutions and use them within 8 hours as once dissolved, the enzyme can be begin to auto-digestion
  •         Do not expose diluted enzyme to temperatures above 130⁰F (55⁰C) as this can denature the enzyme
