Q: We are now using an automated pipette washer and am instructed to use a low foaming pipette detergent. What do you recommend? What about a pre-soak?
A: Traditional siphon pipette washers have relied on Alcotabs® Tablet Pipet Detergent for decades. Some of the contemporary ones look to save time, water or increase efficiency. When such a washer requires a low foaming pipette detergent, we would recommend Solujet® Low-Foaming Phosphate-Free Liquid for use in the pipette washer itself and has a lower pH than many recommended detergent for this applciaiton. Solujet cleaner is highly effective, proven and phosphate-free. It can also be used for soaking your volumetric pipettes so that only a single detergent is required for this application. Traditional soaking detergents like Alconox® Powdered Precision Cleaner and Liquinox® Critical Cleaning Liquid Detergent can of course be considered. In all cases, a 1-2% solution would be recommended.
Pre-soaking is an important procedure, to avoid any residues drying and hardening. This can make the cleaning process that much more difficult. Review the other important step to critical cleaning with BATH-O-CARD.
If a low foaming pipette powdered detergent is sought, Alcojet® Low Foaming Powdered Detergent would provide an excellent alternative. It can similarly be used for a pre-soak.
