It’s that time of year again — our annual look at what TechNotes articles resonated most with readers. We’ve been doing this since 2022, and it’s always interesting to see what rises and falls. Check out our previous lists:

First – the honorable mention. The actual most visited TechNote is the TechNotes homepage itself. Many bookmark and visit the page for its updates, featured articles, and upcoming events.

Here are the top 10 TechNotes for 2025:

#1 — What to choose: acid vs alkaline cleaner?

Back on top! This was #1 in 2022, slipped to #2 for two years, and has reclaimed the crown. Choosing the right cleaner chemistry is clearly a question that never gets old.

#2 — How to remove biofilm

Up one spot from last year. Biofilm continues to be one of the most persistent cleaning challenges across industries — pharma, biotech, labs, medical device, industrial, you name. Wherever there is water.

#3 — types of surfactants

After two years at #1, surfactants dropped to #3. Still a foundational topic, but it seems readers this year we’re more focused on application-specific questions.

#4 — Temperature for Ultrasonic Cleaning

Holding steady at #4 for the second year in a row. Getting the temperature right matters, affects the cleaning time in many cases, and people keep coming back to make sure they’ve got it dialed in.

#5 — Swab limit for cleaning validation

Same spot as last year. Cleaning validation remains critical for our biopharmaceutical and medical device readers.

#6 — How To Make Detergent Solution

Three years running at #6. Consistency is underrated.

#7 — Differences between Alconox and Liquinox

Up one spot from #8. This is one of our most engaged articles — readers spend significantly more time here than on most other posts. When you’re choosing between our flagship products, you want to get it right.

#8 — Detergents vs. Soaps

Down one spot from #7. Still a common question, especially for people new to critical cleaning. Or just being curious.

#9 — Cleaning HPLC Systems and HPLC Glassware

Up from #10. Lab-specific content continues to perform well — this is the kind of detailed, application-focused guidance that readers seem to value most.

#10 — What is a nonionic detergent?

Down one spot from #9, but still holding on. The fundamentals still matter.

Looking ahead….

This year we started paying closer attention to engagement — not just which articles get clicked, but which ones people actually spend time reading. Some articles that didn’t quite crack the top 10 by views showed remarkably strong engagement:

We’ll be watching to see if engagement predicts what rises in 2026. In the meantime, keep the questions coming — most of our article ideas start with questions from readers like you.
