Q: We had a major problem with a hop latent viroid contamination.  It was pointed out that we must do a better job cleaning and disinfecting as per a consultant we chatted with. They recommended to call your company. Can Alconox Inc. help?

A: Hop latent viroid is an infectious circular RNA strand that can spread from cannabis plant to cannabis plant via improper cleaning or disinfection procedures.

Most contamination events can be traced to “dirty” equipment, whether it be cannabis processing, or fields like medical device manufacturing, healthcare, pharma, biotech, laboratory, etc.  As discussed in EPA, CDC and our own TechNotes article on the subject, using disinfectants without first cleaning the surfaces can lead to remaining microbial, viral, or other proteinaceous residues remaining behind “hiding” underneath the residue.  Cleaning prior to disinfection is a must.

Because cannabis residues can be so difficult, it becomes even easier to spread this insidious infection from plant to plant.

We have had demonstrative success in removing cannabis residues with our Detonox® Ultimate Precision Cleaner and Keylajet® Low-foaming Chelating High Alkaline Liquid detergents for years now, both in manual and automated cleaning application settings, respectively.

If you have had a contamination event, or just want your cannabis equipment, tools, glassware and parts critically clean from cannabis residues, give us a call!

To request these or any Alconox Inc. detergents for free, please complete the questionnaire at Get Sample. For more information about any one of our Alconox Inc. detergents, consult the technical bulletin for each product. Or click here to access each of our detergent’s  Safety Data Sheets.
