Q. We are working with contamination of PFAS.   Is there any PFAS, PFOA, or PFOS in any Alconox Inc. cleaners?  Can we use your detergents to clean our lab and glassware?  What do you recommend?

A. PFAS, PFOA, and PFOS are per / polyfluoroalkyl substances,  perfluoro-octanoic acid, and perfluoro-octane sulfonate, respectively.

None of the Alconox Inc. brand laboratory equipment detergents including the commonly used lab products – Alconox, Liquinox, Alcotabs, Detojet, Solujet, Alcojet, Tergajet, Luminox, Citranox, and Citrajet detergents – contain PFAS, PFOA, or PFOS ingredients. Our detergent manufacturing processes does not use any PFAS, PFOA, or PFOS treated compounds or materials. There is no expected nor likely source of PFAS, PFOA, or PFOS in Alconox Inc. detergents.

Alconox Inc. has been successfully used in cleaning analytical equipment used for trace analysis of PFOA and PFOS with no reported event of any interference in equipment blanks.   Our detergents are widely used in cleaning glassware and equipment for trace analytical testing of many types.  The key to successful trace analytical cleaning with Alconox® Powdered Precision CleanerLiquinox® Critical Cleaning Liquid Detergent or other commonly used laboratory detergents is extra rinsing with high purity water.  A six time rinse in purified water of labware and sampling equipment is typical.   For the lowest level trace level cleaning, a twelve time rinse can be considered.  Note that these recommendations are for trace analytical testing and similar applications where even extremely minute residuals are to be avoided. A standard “typical” triple rinse is more than sufficient for a host of applications across pharma, biotech, healthcare, medical device and preclusion maturating applications.
