Q: Were are having issues with castor oil residue in our pharma processes. What do you recommend?

A: Castor oil, derived from the seeds of the Ricinus communis plant, is a versatile oil used in a variety of industries from pharmaceuticals to cosmetics. However, in a manufacturing setting, cleaning castor oil residue can be challenging due to its thick and sticky nature. We recommend Detonox® Ultimate Precision Cleaner—a high emulsifying detergent that offers an effective solution to this problem. For a powdered option, we would recommend Alconox® Powdered Precision Cleaner.

In both cases, warm or hot 2-5% solutions followed by thorough rinsing will be an effective path forward. Recall that % concentration relates to capacity, so lighter residue amounts can often be cleaned with our standard 1-2% recommendations.

For cleaning requiring a low foaming detergent, including washers and high pressure sprayers, we would look to Keylajet® Low-foaming Chelating High Alkaline Liquid and for a powdered option: Alcojet® Low Foaming Powdered Detergent.
