Q: We run a mid-size contract manufacturing facility and have been struggling to clean our mixing tanks and filling equipment between production runs via CIP. Residues from our pigmented formulations, including foundations, waxes, tinted moisturizers, and similar products. A colleague mentioned new Halojet detergent at a recent industry event. Can you tell us more about it?
A: Pigments, fragrances, and designed to linger residues in cosmetic and pharma bases and formulations present some of the most demanding cleaning challenges in manufacturing. Tenacious bases, waxes, creams and the like resist conventional detergents. It’s not surprising your current products are falling short, especially when CIP is mandated. CIP detergents, where low foaming is required, will traditionally be less good at emulsifying. This is exactly the type of application that our newest detergent product Halojet® Low-Foam High Emulsification Cleaner was designed for.
Halojet’s high emulsification, but low foaming action targets challenging organic residues specifically, delivering thorough removal without leaving residues that could compromise your next production run. It’s equally effective on the broader range of soils common in cosmetics manufacturing, including oils, waxes, emollient bases, silicones, and the cream and ointment bases that carry your color products. Where residues like these may previously have called for repeated cleanings or solvent-based approaches with their associated hazards, corrosivity, and flammability, Halojet detergent delivers concentrated aqueous cleaning power that is completely free-rinsing and biodegradable.
And best of all, it does not ship as a hazmat (pH ~10 and usage concentrations).
Halojet is compatible with stainless steel, elastomers, and other common cGMP manufacturing substrates in pharma, cosmetic and the like. It is low-foaming by design, making it well suited for automated washing systems and clean-in-place operations, and it also supports soak, spray, ultrasonic, and flow-through methods. As with all compatibility questions, verify in your own application as every setup, conditions, instruments and setup is different.
If you’d like to talk through your cleaning validation requirements or work out the right protocol for your equipment and residues, we’re happy to help.
