Q: For cleaning of surgical instruments post-surgery, can Alconox Powdered Precision Cleaner be used in tandem with other cleaners? For example, can we use it with a competitor phosphate-free liquid cleaner?

A:  Short answer is that Alconox® Powdered Precision Cleaner is designed to work on its own and shouldn’t need “help” from another cleaning agent.  More healthcare facilities rely on our Tergazyme® Enzyme-Active Powdered Detergent for cleaning surgical instruments and other critical parts.  Tergazyme is essentially Alconox enhanced with protein enzymes.  This facilitates the breakdown and removal of blood, bioorganic, and protein residues even more effectively – Tergazyme vs. Alconox  |   Video: Tergazyme Enzyme-Active Powdered Detergent by Alconox, Inc.

If a phosphate-free liquid detergent is preferred we go with Liquinox® Critical Cleaning Liquid Detergent and again, that should be all you need.

In all of the above detergents, the residues will be emulsified, sequestered and chelated very effectively.

A disinfection step would follow.  As per CDC and EPA recommendations, you want to clean prior to disinfection and Alconox Inc. detergents provide an excellent pathway for doing just that.  More here: Clean Before Sterilization (Disinfection)
