Q: We are looking to clean and reuse prisoner ankle bracelets. We know Alconox, LLC from our lab days. Any suggestions?
A: Generally, the residues encountered in the reuse of prisoner ankle bracelets are organic and proteinaceous in nature. This application is very similar to our cleaning and reuse work with CPAP devices, as discussed here: CPAP Mask Manual Cleaning. Our Tergazyme® Enzyme-Active Powdered Detergent is used around the globe for applications like this. The enzymatic action in Tergazyme detergent makes it particularly well suited for breaking down the protein-based soils that accumulate on skin-contact devices during extended wear.
If a low foaming product is needed, we would go with Alcojet® Low Foaming Powdered Detergent or Detojet® Low Foaming Liquid Detergent for oxidation and chelation action, respectively.
We typically do not encounter compatibility issues with substrates and applications like this.
Happy to discuss particular applications like this further.
